Hundreds Attend Big Healthy Day for Kids

The Kingsford Middle School gym was jam packed for the 2018 One Big Day For Healthy Kids held Saturday, April 14.
KINGSFORD – The 2018 edition of the Northern Lights YMCA Dickinson Center’s Annual One Big Day for Healthy Kids drew hundreds of families Saturday, April 14, at the Kingsford Middle School Gymnasium.
“We were a little worried with the weather forecast, but the storm held off Saturday and a ton of people came out,” YMCA Youth Coordinator Courtney Amble said. “Between the vendors, the attendees, the volunteers and everyone else involved to make this happen, the morning was a wonderful success.”
One Big Day for Healthy Kids is a free community event that brings together organizations, clubs, businesses and vendors. Bounce houses, carnival games and face painting were part of the festivities, and free bike helmets were issued to all in attendance.
Superior Health Foundation, Boss Snowplow and the Dickinson County Hospital Foundation provided major support for the bike helmet giveaway. First National Bank & Trust, Black Dragon TaeKwon-Do and U.P. Dance Academy also sponsored the bike helmets.
“We very much appreciate their support in helping equip the children of our region with properly fitted bike helmets,” Amble said.
One Big Day for Healthy Kids continues the YMCA’s commitment to teach healthy habits for kids and families, encourage physical and mental play and inspire a lifetime love of exercise. As spring begins, Healthy Kids Day is a powerful reminder not to let children idle away their summer days, a great opportunity to educate families and motivate kids to stay active in spirit, mind and body throughout the summer.
Northern Lights YMCA Dickinson Center is in the midst of a Capital Campaign to replace the aging pool inside the Crystal Lake Community Center Building as well as make other improvements to the facility.
