PATH (Personal Actions Towards Health) starts Oct 16

Path teaches practical skills for living a healthy life with a chronic condition like diabetes, arthritis, asthma, obesity, chronic pain, heart disease, addiction or other chronic conditions.

Red Cross re-certification course consists of basic CPR training for adult and pediatric, First Aid & AED training. Learn how to help in emergency situations. Ages 14 & up. All classes are mandatory.

Lifeguard Training Course (Starts Sept 18)

Ages 16 & Up. Red Cross course consisting of 30 hours of training in Adult & Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguarding Skills.  All classes are mandatory, participants must pass written test and show proficiency in skills.  Ask about our tuition waiver for future employees!

Women on Weights (June)

Matter of Balance (Starts Nov 19) Free

The Matter of Balance–PATH (Personal Action Towards Health) workshop is a four week workshop designed to provide the skills and tools needed to help people with the fear of falling. As a result, participants are better equipped to face the daily challenge of living with falls or the fear of falls. Subjects covered include: exploring thoughts and concerns of falling, exercise and fall prevention, managing fatigue and emotional problems, light exercise, recognizing assertive behavior, and working with health care providers.

Program administered by UPCAP, with support from the Northern Lights YMCA.

Diabetes-PATH (Starts Nov 12) Free

The Diabetes –PATH (Personal Action Towards Health) workshop is a six week workshop designed to provide the skills and tools needed by people living with Type 2 diabetes to improve their health and manage their symptoms. Subjects covered include: symptoms of diabetes, stress, managing fatigue and emotional problems, exercise, healthy eating, medications, and working with health care providers. Program administered by UPCAP, with support from the Northern Lights YMCA.

Chronic Pain Self Management Program (Sept 6) Free

Sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan

A free chronic pain management workshop will be offered on Thursday February 15th at the MTEC center, room 2013. The chronic pain management workshop is a six week workshop designed to provide the skills and tools needed to help people living with chronic pain or loved ones caring for one with pain to learn the skills they need to manage their symptoms. People find they are better equipped to face the daily challenge of their health. Two trained leaders conduct the workshop.  Subjects covered include: lack of energy, sleep problems, depression, fatigue, pain, staying active, medication and much more.

Class sizes are limited and pre-registration is required. Family and caregivers are welcome to sign up.  If you are a loved one to someone with chronic pain you are welcome to attend this workshop. There is no cost to attend.   Please call the YMCA to register at 906-789-0005.

Join a certified nutritionist or registered dietician for confidential, personalized, dietary program. Learn your ideal amount of caloric intake per day, maximum fat gram intake, or how to manage your cholesterol level.

All sessions are by appointment and last approximately one hour.
