CPR / First Aid Training

Red Cross course consist of 6 hours of basic CPR training for adult and pediatric, First Aide & AED training. Learn how to help in emergency situations. Ages 14 & up. All classes are mandatory.

Class A: June 11 – 15, M/W/F 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Class B: Aug 6- 10,  M/W/F 6:00-8:00 p.m.

COST: $125 Members $200 General Public

Basketball Personal Training (Youth) New

Basketball Personal Training is for school-aged athletes. The training is made up of drills that challenge mental and physical skills to help athletes prepare for the sport they love. The sessions will be led by Oakland University standout and European League Professional, Olivia Nash.

Women on Weights (June)

This 4 session class is designed specifically for women who want to shape and tone their bodies through the use of strength training and cardiovascular equipment. Limit 6.

Matter of Balance (Starts Aug 7) Free

The Matter of Balance–PATH (Personal Action Towards Health) workshop is a four week workshop designed to provide the skills and tools needed to help people with the fear of falling. As a result, participants are better equipped to face the daily challenge of living with falls or the fear of falls. Subjects covered include: exploring thoughts and concerns of falling, exercise and fall prevention, managing fatigue and emotional problems, light exercise, recognizing assertive behavior, and working with health care providers.

Program administered by UPCAP, with support from the Northern Lights YMCA.

Diabetes-PATH (Starts June 20) Free

The Diabetes –PATH (Personal Action Towards Health) workshop is a six week workshop designed to provide the skills and tools needed by people living with Type 2 diabetes to improve their health and manage their symptoms. Subjects covered include: symptoms of diabetes, stress, managing fatigue and emotional problems, exercise, healthy eating, medications, and working with health care providers. Program administered by UPCAP, with support from the Northern Lights YMCA.

Chronic Pain Self Management Program (May 17) Free

A free chronic pain management workshop will be offered on Thursday February 15th at the MTEC center, room 2013. The chronic pain management workshop is a six week workshop designed to provide the skills and tools needed to help people living with chronic pain or loved ones caring for one with pain to learn the skills they need to manage their symptoms. People find they are better equipped to face the daily challenge of their health. Two trained leaders conduct the workshop.  Subjects covered include: lack of energy, sleep problems, depression, fatigue, pain, staying active, medication and much more.

Class sizes are limited and pre-registration is required. Family and caregivers are welcome to sign up.  If you are a loved one to someone with chronic pain you are welcome to attend this workshop. There is no cost to attend.   Please call the YMCA to register at 906-789-0005.

Nutritional Coaching

Join a certified nutritionist or registered dietician for confidential, personalized, dietary program. Learn your ideal amount of caloric intake per day, maximum fat gram intake, or how to manage your cholesterol level.

All sessions are by appointment and last approximately one hour.

Adult Fitness Assessments

Ages 18 and Up

Our Assessment will consist of a series of baseline tests to determine your overall fitness level. Muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, cardio respiratory endurance (aerobic), body composition, and your blood pressure will be measured by a YMCA Fitness Specialist. In addition, a short how-to in the fitness center will be available. Minimum age 18 years old.

(A cancellation notice of 24 hours is required to avoid being charged a $15 cancellation fee)

Youth Fitness Center Orientation

Ages 12-15

To use the fitness center, all youth ages 12 – 15 are required to attend this class.

Once successfully completing the youth orientation and Parent / Child agreement:

  • 14 & 15 year olds may use the fitness center without parental supervision anytime.
  • 12 & 13 year olds may use the fitness center with parent supervision anytime or at the following times without parental supervision: Tuesday, Thursday & Friday from 3:30 to 5 PM
