NLYMCA swimmers successful at Marquette

IRON MOUNTAIN – Several Northern Lights YMCA Dickinson Center swim team members saw their first action of the season, competing at the WACY Trick or Treat Meet at Marquette High School Oct. 29-30.
Dickinson swimmers claimed first in several events at the meet.
“We saw great effort across the board, with many of our swimmers competing in a meet for the first time,” NLYMCA assistant coach Aimee Tatangelo said. “We’re super proud of all our swimmers who competed and are looking forward to an exciting season.”
Bryce Johnson and Tucker Williams, both swimmers in the 11-12 year old group, kicked off the two-day event by swimming the 500 yard freestyle. Ella Murphy dominated the girls 8 and under with firsts in the 25 yard freestyle, 25 yard backstroke, and 50 yard freestyle. Sierra and Dominic Tatangelo each posted two wins. Sierra (age 7) was first in the 25 yard freestyle and 25 yard backstroke. Her brother Dominic (age 9) was first in the 25 yard backstroke and was the only swimmer for the 9-10 year old 100 yard freestyle.
Kailey Matuszewski won the girls 11-12 year old 100-yard backstroke. Aubrey Dixon was first in the girls 9-10 year old 100 yard IM. Ella McLean topped a field of five swimmers in the girls 11-12 year old 50 freestyle. Olivia Scott was unopposed in the girls 11-12 year old 50-yard breaststroke. Kaden Matuszewski swam for 20 points in the boys 15 and over 100 yard backstroke.
