IRON MOUNTAIN – Full-time child care is coming to the Northern Lights YMCA Dickinson Center.

The YMCA, in partnership with Systems Control, is opening the Little Sparks Child Care Center in the spring of 2019. The center will initially offer 48 slots, including an infant care room with a capacity for 12 babies.

“There is a huge need for additional child care services in our community, and we’re just thrilled to be able to offer this service at the YMCA,” Dickinson Center Director Jonathan Ringel said. “We’re very excited to partner with Systems Control in this venture.”

The partnership with Systems Control provides the company with access to affordable, licensed care for its employees, something that is vital to its growth plans.

“Safe, local, and affordable licensed child care is a top concern of our employees and potential employees,” Systems Control Human Resources Director Bridget Kennedy said. “This child care partnership with an organization like the YMCA will only help us as we continue to grow and recruit the best employees possible.”

Construction for the Systems Control Little Sparks Day Care Center began this month. The three-room center will be located on the east end of the YMCA and is the first project occurring as part of the YMCA’s Capital Campaign renovations.

While the partnership with Systems Control gives its employees waiting list preference, the child care center will be open to the public. Should the center fill to capacity, the YMCA will have the ability to expand.

“If we fill up, we have plans to expand to a five-room center fairly quickly,” Ringel noted.

Rates and exact hours of operation will be announced at a later date, but YMCA officials expect to offer full-time care Monday-Friday, including evening care.

The YMCA expects to open a waiting list for enrollment to the general public sometime in early 2019. No reservations will be accepted until that time.

Individuals interested in applying for employment at the Systems Control Little Sparks Child Care Center can obtain applications at the YMCA Welcome Desk. The YMCA estimates a need for 12-24 full and/or part time staff members.
