The Northern Lights YMCA Dickinson Center Capital Campaign is off to a roaring start, as more than $100,000 in pledges and donations have been committed in the campaign’s first week.
“The response so far has been overwhelming and we are sincerely thankful for the support,” Dickinson Center Director Jonathan Ringel said. “Our friends, neighbors and supporters understand the value of this facility to our community, and they want to see it upgraded for the next generation.”
Iron Mountain Animal Hospital was among the first-week donors, announcing a $10,000 donation to the campaign. Through a corporate partnership, many of the clinic’s staff are members and regular visitors at the Y.
“We are happy to support the Y and everything they do for this community,” Dr. Brian Scott said. “Through our corporate program with the Y, we see firsthand the benefits of wellness with our staff. The Y is an invaluable resource to our community.”
“Support from businesses such as Iron Mountain Animal Hospital is so very much appreciated,” Ringel said. “They believe in our mission and what the Y means to our region. We are so grateful for their support.”
At the Capital Campaign kickoff event on January 25, Y officials announced a $2.4 million renovation plan for the Crystal Lake Community Center Building. With approximately $1.8 million having been raised during a quiet campaign during the past two years, the remaining goal was set at $650,000. With one week in the books, the goal is now less than $550,000.
“I have no doubt the community will meet and exceed our goal for this worthwhile project,” Ringel said.
The Capital Campaign runs through June. The remodel of the Community Center would begin possibly as early as the fall, with the pool rebuild slated for the summer of 2019.
